The framing that helps me understand people better is that 1 out of every 40 people don’t have a functioning conscience, and the other 97% don’t realize that our brains are stuck 100,000 years ago hunting and gathering with large cats stalking us. 99% of our problems would be solved if all of us truly grasped that we can’t escape the Savannah and if we let fewer anti-social people have control of society.
1) never forget BIG CARS. eeeevery fucking time when i see someone with a huge 4x4 in a downtown alley, i think about how large their penis is
2) 'One time, the entire marketing department dropped everything for a month to help her write one blog… on her PERSONAL BLOG.' - this made me think of Graeber's bullshit jobs and how for some reason we still think that the market is good at allocating resources
3) the camel and the needle thing - that might actually be a mistranslation, where instead of camel, it should be rope/cable. definitely not as cool as a camel
Dang. Loved this piece! Reminded me of the years I spent working in the “entertainment industry,” for very rich assholes, including a VERY second-rate, forgettable, you’ve-never-heard-of-him film director who claimed in his CV that he “served as mentor and guide” to… wait for it… Truman Capote.
Tech - finance - the movies - all the fields. The alpha dogs are always hollow, shitty, pathetic excuses for people. It’s sad. Except for when it’s not.

BAM. Perfect, Jon. Also wow, 1 in 40? That is terrifying and also explains so much.
Yeah, somewhere between 2-3% of the population have ASPD. Obviously the severity varies from individual to individual but yeah… it’s a lot.
Another extremely relatable post. We worked so hard to escape these performances only to perform for new people in different ways.
As always, pure gold! Three things:
